IBM link http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
provides details on determining the PVU count
If suppose the Configuration is
Server Hardware is IBM
Model System x3850 X5
CPU Cores 16
Processor Type : Intel (R) Xeon(R) CPU E7-8837 @2.67 GHz
Processor Sockets: 2
Cores per Socket : 8
And If there are 4 (VM) Lotus Domino Servers each with 2 cores , then total number of PVUs required will be 140*4 = 560
If the Server is Virtualised (VMware) and only 2 cores are assigned per Virtual Macine (VM) then PVU will be 2*70 = 140 Value Units per core is 70 <- this is as per the PVU table in specified in IBM link
